Extend Tax Breaks

Created by S.S. on February 15, 2014

The government is taking our hard earned money! Previously, teachers have been able to deduct $250 for school supplies without itemizing. Nolo.com, states that this deduction was extended by Congress on a year-to-year basis and then reinstated for 2012 and 2013 under the American Taxpayer Relief Act. It expired at the end of 2013 and will not be available in 2014, unless there is legislation reinstating it.
Many of us have depended on this money to help pay for all the supplies, which the school or parents will not provide. Frankly, the $250 didn't fully cover the amount of the supplies for the entire school year and It's unbelievable that Congress is trying to cut this tax break. Support teachers and give us back our tax break!
