Extend Unemployment emergency benefits & emergency Unemployment insurance for everyone for a year

Created by S.V. on January 02, 2013

I along with many others are unable to claim unemployment insurance since December 9th. Like many others, I have searched for jobs consistently and applied to at least 100 different jobs, but am still unemployed. We were told that because the unemployment rate has reached a certain level in NY that we are no longer eligible for extended benefits (EB). For those of us who rely on this as a source of income and a way to pay bills and rent this was and still is a huge blow. I understand that emergency unemployment compensation (EUC) will be extended under the new fiscal deal in order to insure that millions will not enter into poverty. However, what about those of us who are looking for work -that is not there-and have been cut off from unemployment insurance since December 9th 2012?
