Over the past 24 hours, a number of instances have surfaced where a new or longtime registered voter has checked registration status only to see that he or she has been mistakenly and mysteriously unregistered. Given the traffic to the Board of Elections website and lack of awareness about this issue, many will be turned away at the polls on April 19, disenfranchising voters across the state. This is a disgrace to the ideals of our country and should not occur in a democracy.
