A vacancy was created on the Supreme Court by the passing of Justice Antonin Scalia. The current sitting president duly fulfilled his duty and nominated a qualified jurist. The republicans in the United States senate have attempted to abrogate the powers of the President of the United States by refusing to give his nominee a vote. I now call on President Obama to duly swear-in Judge Merrick Garland as Associate Justice to the Supreme Court of the United States. The republican party's attempt to own the Supreme Court in perpetuity cannot become just routine. It is NOT the GOP Supreme Court. It is the United States Supreme Court. Justice Garland would be under no obligation to recuse himself. Just as Justices Thomas and Scalia refused to recuse themselves in matters that pertained to them.
