HitchBOT, a resident and icon of Canada, was reliant upon the kindness of strangers while hitchhiking across the United States. Only 2 weeks into its journey, disaster struck. While awaiting its next ride, the beloved bot was violently dismembered in Philadelphia: an act believed to be caught on surveillance video.
With Canada marking its lowest homicide rate since 1966, the winsome bot was likely unaware and unprepared for this unprovoked violence.
We urge the Secretary of State John Kerry and Attorney General Loretta Lynn to cooperate fully with Canadian authorities to bring the perpetrator to justice, and to approve prompt extradition at the Canadian government's request.
