Facts, not Fiction: Holding News Organizations Accountable for Sharing Truth

Created by L.P. on November 16, 2016

We The People deserve to hear the truth and know when we are being told the truth. News organizations have a duty to uphold ethical principals of journalism and communicate facts, not fiction.

This petition proposes:

1) news organizations and news channels declare each program, at the beginning of each program, as:
a) entertainment with the intent to convey opinions and not facts; or
b) journalistic news with the intent to report only facts, not opinions;
2) a $1,000 fine for every untrue statement communicated during journalistic news programming;
3) a $10,000 fine for every journalistic news program that fails to correct its mis-statements within a 24-hour period;
4) programs self-declared as entertainment (1a) at the start of their program will be exempt from 2 and 3 above.
