Omagaven, a fish oil based medicine, developed by Doctor Mark Puder, Boston Children's Hosptial, has been proven to reverse liver damage in children. However, the FDA will not approve the drug without a Control Study, where half the patients get the drug, and half get a placebo. Dr. Puder refuses to do this because that means some children will die.
Omagaven is also effective in saving the lives of children effected by the rare genetic disease Microvillus Inclusion, also known as Davidson's Disease.
Children with this disease cannot absorb fluids or nutrients from food and drink, and must be kept fed and hydrated from a solution called Total Parenteral Nutrition, or TPN. Long term use can cause liver damage.
