This is a petition to create a federal statute that sets minimum criminal penalties for crimes committed with a gun and also makes all gun crimes a federal offense. The object is to make these penalties so severe and draconian that it serves as a deterrent to criminals and thereby reduces the frequency of gun crime. Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens are protected while potential criminals are deterred. New federal standards for the sale and use of guns in the home can also be attached to the bill.
