Brominated Vegetable Oil (BVO) is an ingredient that has been used in many soft drinks since 1931. The FDA recognized BVO as "generally recognized as safe" until 1970, when this decision was withdrawn. BVO is also an ingredient found in flame retardants.
PepsiCo was petitioned to remove BVO from its drinks, such as Gatorade and Mountain Dew, but many grocery stores still use it in its proprietary brands.
I am asking for a federal ban on BVO in the Food Industry, as the continued consuming of BVO can cause adverse health effects.
