Federally decriminalize marijuana for the purpose of non-interference with states that have already legalized it.

Created by B.L. on April 27, 2013

I am bringing this petition on behalf of the voters of the states of Washington and Colorado who voted to legalize the recreational use of marijuana. For the purpose of non-interference by the federal government with certain state laws, I believe that the U.S. Federal Government should decriminalize simple possession of marijuana and the peripheral crimes that accompany it. This simple act would also have the effect of freeing up law enforcement, who, quite honestly, have better things to do than paperwork for a possession arrest, to do actual police work. It would save the government money by releasing the money from Reagan's "War on Drugs" to be used in more productive ventures. It would also allow the nation to treat drug use as a public health issue, rather than a legal one .
