Marijuana should be legalized/decriminalized for both medical and recreational use. If regulated, taxed, and controlled in the same manner as alcohol is currently, there would be many benefits to all citizens and many government agencies. This would add much needed funding to the government at all levels by providing tax money and create job opportunities. Legalization would also relieve some burden placed on the court systems, prison systems, and law enforcement due to the number of citations or arrests made due to simple possession. Marijuana has been proven to alleviate stress and anxiety, reduce nausea in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and can help to reduce the symptoms of a wide range of conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, glaucoma, and multiple sclerosis.
