federally lower the drinking age to 18, 16 with parent/guardian supervision

18 year olds are already allowed to marry, enlist, vote, and be tried as an adult, in comparison it becomes unreasonable to prevent their purchase or consumption of alcohol. As it is 18-20 year olds already have abundant access to alcohol, and underage drinking does occur. In fact it has become an epidemic. The issue has only been pushed underground and lead to a reluctance to seek medical attention, causing deaths that could have easily been prevented. Now we are faced with the fact that more alcohol related deaths are occurring off the road than on. While this petition mainly focuses on 18-20, allowing 16 year olds to drink under parent or guardian supervision allows them to do so in a controlled environment, and become accustomed to drinking responsibly rather than binge drinking
