Federally mandate the abolition of corporal punishment in public schools nationwide.

Created by S.S. on January 25, 2015

This petition is to abolish the use of corporal punishment in schools nationwide. There are currently 19 states that allow schools to utilize corporal punishment as a means to discipline school children. Evidence abounds that clearly indicates the use of corporal punishment in schools is an ineffective disciplinary measure, which has the ability to not only cause physical harm, but also emotional harm. According to an article published in the Journal of Adolescent Health, children who are subjected to corporal punishment may develop Educationally Induced Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (EIPSD), which causes, amongst other alignments "suicidal thoughts, anxiety episodes, increased anger with feelings of resentment and outbursts of aggression" (Journal of Adolescent Health, (32)5).
