Federally mandate a maximum time misdemeanors are accessible by employers and the public. Preferably 5-10 years.

Created by G.D. on March 25, 2013

A federal law should be created that doesn't allow employers or the general public to access a criminal misdemeanor charge, of any degree, after a time frame of 5-10 years. Our criminal justice system is broken. Forcing people to carry the burden of a misdemeanor record for life negatively affects an individuals ability to find gainful employment. This will give all individuals with misdemeanors a reason to stay out of trouble because they will have hope for the future. This will also positively affect our unemployment rate and decrease the rate of repeat offenders who wish to change, but are unable to find work.
