Computer science and security experts at the Vulnerability Assessment Team at Argonne National Laboratory have shown how electronic voting machines are vulnerable to simple hacks that can happen before, during or after the voter votes. This issue must be addressed through federal law and not left to the states, where nefarious activities have been known to have happened at the hands of partisans. There must be a federal mandate for a paper trail that can be verified by the voter after the vote is cast electronically. This paper trail, such as the paper receipt roll found inside cash registers, may then be used to verify election results. Addresses concerns about voter fraud.
