Federally Sponsor International Nonviolence Day on October 2nd

Created by A.M. on July 30, 2013

October 2nd is the day on which the first great champion of overcoming injustice through peace and understanding, Mohandas “Mahatma” Gandhi, was born. For many around the world, Gandhi’s philosophy of satyagraha (“truth-force”) through nonviolence to dismantle injustice has inspired not only historical movements, but a lifestyle based on introspection, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to peace. That is what this day evokes for peace advocates around the world. The U.N. has already honored this day to celebrate the gift that Gandhi has given to the movement for world peace. However, we believe that the innate human desire for peace will best be roused if it pervades all of society, and that America, as the pioneer of liberty and peace, is an ideal place for that ground to be broken.
