Incarceration is supposed to be rehabilitation and teaching inmates how to be productive citizens on their communities . However , it is impossible for felons to obtain employment, even in the fast food industry or gas stations. Non violent offenders with a drug addiction that are sober and have been for years still cannot obtain employment because of background checks and then are never given a chance to explain or even pass drug testing . It seems to be a catch 22 situation . How can we survive or be productive citizens when our government has set us up for failure ? Maybe that's why the return to prison rate and inmat population is so high in this country. There needs to be some kind don't of reform of this employment rejection for convictions some dating 14yrs ago.
