Our schools are missing out on the opportunity to capitalize on our children's creativity. Art classes remain on the sideline of our students' curriculum. Art activities should be funded and promoted as the main part of everyone's academic growth. This specialized focus can create a vehicle for emotional expression of our often times traumatized children who have to grow up quickly in a fast-paced society. It can provide a means for students to process their pent up anxieties and troubling mood fluctuations that result from unresolved issues and concerns, be it from home, family interactions, peer conflicts, or simply going through transitional stages of their natural development. Art provides a natural, common pathway from stress to healing; an ingrained human trait everyone can perform.
