Daesh (a.k.a. the Islamic State, ISIS, ISIL) seeks to provoke Western Democracies to shut down open societies, to enflame intolerance and hatred, and for us to grant their fundamental ideological premise that The West is at war with Islam so that they can claim that they are "true Islam." In order to beat Daesh – and radical, violent jihadism in general – we must make their ideas demonstrably wrong.
If America is to claim the mantle of exceptionalism, of leadership, and of freedom, we must boldly and dramatically open our arms whose lives tyranny has destroyed. Grant hope and opportunity to at least 1,000,000 Middle Easterners in desperate need of a new beginning.
