There is currently a cap of $2500 when deducting student loan interest paid during a tax year, including people married and filing jointly. However, the amount an individual has to pay to receive a college degree is becoming exponentially burdensome. The ability to deduct more, if not all, student loan interest paid during a tax year would allow an individual to pay off their debt in a more efficient manner and begin saving for the future. Please sign this petition if you agree and insist that the President and Congress should take student loan debt and higher education seriously and remove, or increase, the cap on the amount of student loan interest that can be deducted in a tax year.
