I believe that all military who serve in a combat zone or retire from military service should be tax exempt for life. The men and women of the United States, who are taxed, are essentially paying the salaries of our service men and women. The Federal government then taxes the pay of military members essentially giving them a pay decrease. Due to the hardships and stresses military members go through in a combat zone members should no longer be required to pay taxes. Also, even though by choice a military member who retires after 20 years should not take a retirement decrease by being taxed by the federal government.
