People with criminal convictions are unable to find stable housing or gainful employment. It is proven that this leads to recidivism after "re-entering" society. There are no federal or state policies that protect people's right to work. Not only does this effect our crime rates, unemployment rates, our economy, the victims of crimes, but also the offenders themselves denying them their right to be apart of society and work to provide for themselves.
After an offender completes their sentence their debt to society has been paid, but offenders are forced to suffer the collateral consequences that come with their crimes.
This needs to be changed. And it needs to be changed now.
