The United States of America remains the sole industrialized nation whose citizenry are not afforded the right to [universal] health care.
Article 1, Section 8 of the United States Constitution states that “The Congress shall have Power To . . . provide for the . . . general Welfare of the United States."
Opponents of universal health care argue that one’s right to health care was not intended by the original authors of the Constitution – which was created in 1787. However, the practice of universal health care had yet to be introduced into any industrialized nation until 1883.
Our current health system is ranked 37th by the WHO; it is also the world’s most expensive – as our health system is based on profit... and not lives (i.e. health insurance companies and their motive for profit).
