We, as citizens of the United States, petition the White House to publicly endorse Senate Filibuster Reform.
Specifically, we request that the White House favor altering the the filibuster rules to require any person wishing to filibuster to take the floor and speak for the duration of the filibuster.
While we believe the filibuster serves a real purpose, we also believe that filibusters should be used as a last resort for actions of import, not simply a means to casually object to any business.
By requiring a Senator to publicly take the floor and speak, we preserve the usefulness of the filibuster, but help to reduce Senate gridlock by requiring Senators to place themselves in the public eye in order to block Senate business.
