The current currency is known as a Fiat currency which the value of which is not backed by anything. One of the reasons for the fall of Rome. Now it is not worth the paper it is printed on. This country is headed for a severe financial crisis which I'd wager would be nothing short of total chaos for many Americans. Due to the enormous deficit that we accumulate the only solution we have seemed to muster is to continue to print more money causing our current dilemma. So the answer to this would have to be two-fold. One we need to reduce the deficit, and either increase the value of the dollar or come up with a currency backed by something. It would seem a plausible resource to charge for military resources as we tend to be the world's police. Thus we need to look externally for resources.
