The problem we face in the US is that most all of the gun laws we have in effect only apply to firearm dealers, when guns have been legally purchased, they go into the abyss of the public and vanish. We don't have any laws into place that makes law abiding people responsible for the firearms they have legally purchased. We need to make responsible gun owners be responsible for what they have purchased. People who have legally purchased their guns should be able to register their guns and legally own them. If they choose to get rid of their weapons, they should be able to go to a ffl dealer and change the ownership to the new owner, if not, hold them at least partially responsible for the crime that was committed with that firearm. If a gun is found with no registration, take it!
