The Digital Millenium Copyright act is an outdated act that serves to protect corporations against consumers by destroying competition. Examples of illegal activities under the DMCA:
1)Playing a DVD on a linux computer.

2)Unlocking your cellphone

Possibly illegal:
3)Jailbreaking / modifying a product

While it is true that we need to protect copyrights in order to grow the economy this should not come at the expense of the consumers freedom to use and modify the product as they see fit.
