The vast majority of the American population supports background checks for gun sales online and at gun shows. The only opposition point to this matter is that this motion would somehow lead to a national gun registry, and then somehow the government would enter people's homes and take their guns. The last background check actually contained legislation banning a national gun registry. The NRA, who supported this movement not so long ago, has reversed its position. It claims it wants the administration to find a way to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, but its representatives doesn't support these common sense background checks. It's worth noting that even the vast majority of NRA members approve of background checks.
