One of the underlying causes of the perceived increase in gun violence is glorification of those who commit terrorist acts among others. Most offenders use the media as a platform to spread messages of hate and reach a wide spread audience with their views. By not allowing the names of the offenders to be released, it will remove some of the perceived appeal of committing these acts of terrorism.
