Government shutdowns have happened in the past and have been caused by both parties, this time due to the GOP. Our current state of government allows for congress to be unaccountable for their actions and as a result were capable of causing a government shutdown with little to no repercussions. By firing all current members of congress future representatives will be forced to compromise more readily or be forced to risk losing their jobs.
