Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Garland, along with his colleagues Carmen Ortiz and Stephen Heymann, abused his public office to overzealously prosecute Aaron Swartz for multiple alleged computer crimes based on an alleged violation of theTerms of Service of a database of academic publications. Aaron Swartz simply downloaded more articles at one time than the Terms of Service permitted so that he could make them available to the public for free. He gained no personal benefit. For this he was threatened with 50 years in prison and hounded by these prosecutors until he committed suicide. Scott Garland does not have the judgment necessary to make prosecutorial decisions and should be fired.
