Dan Ashe exercised extremely poor judgement by allowing 6 tons of ivory to be pulverized to dust upon seizure in Colorado. Regardless of Ashe's past record, this act is inexcusable. It shows a lack of vision and common sense and is a missed opportunity to help fund the global battle against poaching.
If the current administration believes destroying black market ivory will show the world that poaching is intolerable, they are mistaken. By reducing supply, the price of ivory will go up thus making elephant poaching an even more attractive venture to a starving family.
I am petitioning to have Dan Ashe removed from his position as director due to his utter failure to see the bigger picture in this scenario. We should be able to expect more from our leaders.
