Geithner negotiated the AIG backdoor bailout in his role as President of the NY Fed, rewarding numerous large banks that had bet heavily against the mortgage market with taxpayer money. When AIG was near collapse, the counter-parties in those deals should have had no expectation that they would have their policies paid off 100% by the US Treasury. If AIG's salvation was truly essential for the economy, so be it, but Goldman Sachs and the other counter-parties should have been forced to accept not only that they wouldn't earn a giant windfall, but actual losses on their positions.
Geithner is a stooge beholden to the major banks, and once his actions came to light, he should have been immediately removed from the Treasury Secretary's desk. We ask Obama to rectify that situation today.
