It encumbers the tax payers to protect the First Family. In today's world this is an expected and appropriate expense. However, it is also expected and appropriate that the residence of the entire First Family is the White House. Any costs associated with a desire for any members to live elsewhere is to come at the expense of the First Family. The First Family is defines as the President. his/her spouse, their dependent children for which there is joint or singular custody. Traditionally, adult children and other family members related are provided some level of protection; but it is inappropriate and unnecessary that two, "full time" residences are so protected.
