All major web browsers use security certificates to validate URLs. There has been an issue for several years where none of the web browsers will recognize the certificates from most DOD websites. This is not only frustrating because it hinders access to critical websites, it is also a security threat. The reason these certificates exist is to prevent people from accidentally accessing malicious sites. Because there are no valid certificates on DOD websites, a user may access a malicious site and input their username and password or other sensitive information. With that information or login a hostile entity may gain access to our website and cause further damage to information security.
