Rather than doing away with the Electoral College, which gives power to smaller states, reform it to the "Maine" system of apportionment. The Electoral College votes for each state equals the total congressional delegation. In most states the winner gets all even if it is a close vote. This is unfair to the smaller towns in states where there are big cities like NYC, because their voice is never heard above the din.
In Maine, statewide winner gets the Senatorial votes and the House portion goes to the winner of that district. This balances power better and gives voice to more rural parts of states and not just the urban centers. This also stops elections being about 4-5 big player states and spreads the power around to all 50 states.
