The federal government has categorized marijuana as a schedule one drug as stated by the Controlled Substances Act.
Now individual states can redefine their own schedules over these substances, which is why places like Colorado and Washington were able to legalize marijuana, and other states have permitted it for medical uses.
The problem is that people who cultivate for, or are in the possession of marijuana in those states are still prosecutable under federal law.
I think its time for the federal government to find a solution to this problem.
Why should we legally be able to grow marijuana at a state level, but if the federal government comes you're a "drug kingpin" and will spend 15 years in jail for doing something that's legal in your state?
Thanks for listening :)
