Medicare part D assists patients (who qualify) to pay for prescriptions.
However, Medicare part D is not a cost effective program and is difficult for those insured.
Some provisions of Medicare part D make no sense. For example, the US government may not negotiate discounts for the program. These discounts are already in place within the Veterans Administration and would require little bureaucracy.
Previous attempts to close the coverage gap have been piecemeal - the gap should be closed completely within 5 years.
The formularies should be standardized across insurers.
The funding to fix Medicare should come from raising the Social Security premium cap.
Please submit a bill to Congress to fix this program. A solution is necessary before January 2015
