The national Do-Not-Call list promised an end to unwanted telemarketing calls, under threat of $11,000 fines per phone call. The list is a farce. The FCC is powerless to enforce it, because it relies upon citizens to file complaints. But citizens can’t file valid complaints because the sleazy telemarketers transmit falsified caller-ID numbers. Clearly this is a case of conspiracy and tampering with evidence, but seems to be quite effective.
I petition the administration to promulgate rules through the FCC to end this intolerable situation by requiring telecommunication companies to implement procedures within 12 months to prevent the completion of a call when the caller ID number does not match the number of the call’s origin. Then enforce the rule and fine industry out of existence.
