There are firms that hold patents to broad types of things but they do NOTHING to innovate on them. Because of this, it is hard for other companies (as well as an industry) to innovate on things. If somebody has a patent, they should do something with it instead of letting it collect dust (and law suit money). I am not an expert in this field, but I think that something needs to be done.
