Airport body scanners are there for the safety of airline passengers, however, because the average female body for TSA passengers has thin straight hair, the ATR software scans women with Afros, locs, weaves, braids, densely curly and other typical hair types and styles for non-caucasian women as "too thick", and therefore abnormal for female bodies. As a result, many black women have their hair felt or searched by TSA workers.
Because of a new technology which does not consider all body types, TSA causes many black women serious discomfort during an already intrusive process.
If the sensitivity were to accommodate for multiple types of hairstyles, it would decrease time in line at the airport, and increase customer satisfaction.
