Sequestration instituted across-the-board cuts to every government department and every budget line item. This meant that government departments had no say in how to implement sequestration cuts. The result was government furloughs, reduced benefits, delayed projects, etc.
The Obama administration should sit down with Congressional leaders to create a better way to implement sequestration. Republicans want budget cuts and Democrats want to mitigate sequestration effects on middle class Americans. A new resolution should be created to keep the TOTAL departmental AMOUNT of sequestration cuts in place (Republican win) but allow departments to implement cuts AS THEY SEE FIT (Democrat win).
The result is effective budget cuts that trim waste without harming the economy.
