We flew the flag of the United States at half mast to show respect for Nelson Mandela, someone who wasn't an ally of the United States and a terrorist responsible for killing many innocent people. If we can fly the flag at half mast for Mandela, we surely can do the same for the leader of one of our allies when that leader dies.
