To prevent another mass shooting of children or innocent bystanders, we need to find sensible community-driven-sustainable solutions that will help children develop healthy social skills. These skills will promote mental health and emotional intelligence.
We don't need another study or evidence based program. We should divert money currently wasted on ineffective social programs; Head Start is one of them. It's time to open our eyes and see that those programs are not effective. The only sustainable things about these programs are the stigma and the isolation. Economic and health disparities between the rich and the poor continue to increase.
Grassroots efforts that involve communities – parents, faith-based organizations, and people living within the community- are needed.
