We have a moral obligation to help those in need. Individuals and charities can only do so much. Government programs are a way for all of us to provide services to all of us who need them. We are a very rich country, but our priorities have become sadly skewed. When the richest people and companies benefit from government policies at the expense of the poor, we are failing in the promise of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" to our citizens.
President Obama talks often about difficult times for the middle class, but rarely mentions the poor who are suffering greatly. Nearly every day we read or hear of possible cuts to income, medical and other support services, in order to "balance the budget."
This is simply wrong, and I want my president to say so and mean it!
