The concept of tenure is with great intent, however, without proper maintenance over the years it has begun to corrupt our education system.
Tenure provides professors with both objective and relief; without just cause they cannot be terminated from their position. Meanwhile, adjunct professors are strained, focusing more on achieving results to get through their probationary period. Less time is spent focusing on direct interaction with students (e.g shortened classes, little or no office hours). This has led to a decreased graduation rate with students under the wings of adjuncts.
As the first state to adopt the system, it is up to us to redefine it's natures and intents.
