On July 2015 the House passes the Dark Act, Deny Americans the Right to Know Act, for which it codifies a voluntary labeling system. Allowing food companies to voluntarily choose to include GMO information, however they are not required to.
The legislation provides flexibility for companies to choose from either including a text statement or symbol, a digital QR code, or URL link.
All Americans should have the right to know what they are purchasing or consuming. QR codes and URL links don't necessarily allow all Americans access to the information they deserve to know. Only 21% of Americans have claimed to using QR codes, which must be downloaded. Not all Americans possess smartphones, which is why food companies should be required to include a TEXTUAL informative statement.
