The food stamp program, or SNAP, is in danger of being cut by $16.5 billion over the next 10 years. This program serves families, children, and college students. This is not the time to cut SNAP. According to David Lloyd at the Fiscal Policy Center, the SNAP program has grown by 20 million people, enabling struggling families to afford healthy meals. In 2010, SNAP moved more than 5 million people, including 2.2 million children, above the poverty line. According to the US Labor Department, 46.37 million Americans are using food stamps. This program is not just for the poor; it is for those in need. There is no need to reduce the funding for this program, or how the program is allocated by the states,as this is a need-based program.
