Under the proposed law, there will be a mandatory two year sentence for all military members that have been convicted of sexual assault. This proposed law targets the military specifically while members of the Congress, Senate, and the Executive office are allowed to resign and keep their pensions and all other benefits. All elected officials should have to adhere to the strictest of laws due to their status as representatives of the people. This is the case for all military members who serve as U.S. ambassadors to other nations while stationed there. Anyone who represents the interests of this nation, whether military or elected official, should have to abide by these laws.
