One primary function of Congress is to pass an annual budget. It has been more than 4 years since Congress passed anything close to a budget. In most years since 1997 our nation has been funded by Continuing Resolutions – not budgets. Congress has consistently failed to do the job for which it was elected and the various Presidents have done nothing to break that impasse.
Congress has become so dysfunctional that only the true threat of a government shutdown will compel them to act responsibly. We request that President Obama step up and show the courage necessary to force Congress to do its job by refusing to sign any spending bill that does not fund our ENTIRE government for a full year even if that action leads to a temporary shutdown of non-essential government entities.
